Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru. Jai Guru.
If you examine your life and the daily activities and interactions you will find that depending upon how much of activity useful, relevant and intense you have and of what scale of importance and consequence these activities are, depending upon these two factors your mind will be occupied. The mind will start thinking about the activities, consequences, preparations and what not. But nonetheless there will be some time during the day, not one time, there are many times during the day when the mind will not be occupied with your activities and involvements. There will be some time where the mind will produce its own independent thoughts not necessarily related to your activity and interactions. What shall I call them? Shall I say they are unnecessary thoughts? Unnecessary because they are not directly related to what you do in one way or the other. So the mind is given to occupying itself with the activities and thoughts related to them.
The mind will also be producing some independent thoughts. These independent thoughts will have to be spiritual. When you become a full fledged seeker and you stay in your gurusannidhi, whatever activity that you are performing, all these activities are auxiliary or ancillary to the main spiritual activity. Say if you ask me, my life is given to Brahmavidya dissemination and everything I do is as a result of or as a necessary means for this Brahmavidya dissemination. Suppose I feed my body, I have my food, so the nourishment provided to my body is necessary so that my Brahmavidya activity will go on. So in what way is it different from Brahmavidya?
There is a lamp. The metal part of the lamp, the vessel part is there. Then there is a stem. There is a central stem upward. Then you have a wick. Then you pour oil. Finally you light up. The flame starts coming in shedding its brilliance. Removing the soot and extending the wick now and then, pouring more oil when the oil is burnt off, they are a part of the whole flame process. How can you say that I want only the flame? And wick is a disconnected product. The oil has got no relationship with the flame. Can you say that? Or even the metal part? So the vessel, the oil, the wick, all the three are necessary equally in order to have the flame on. Is it not in the same manner my feeding my body, nourishing it equally necessary as a part of my Brahmavidya dissemination? Then my body has to live somewhere. So a residence is necessary. In that residence others also are there. So further buildings are necessary. Devotees and others come, they have to be hosted. So we must have a food arrangement, feeding arrangement. Then we have letters to write. So writing facilities have to be there. We are publishing magazines. We are writing books.
So what is the point where you say that it is only work, work, and work? Any work that is performed by me in my life is completely soaked in Brahmavidya dissemination. If this is so with me don’t you think that you have something to copy, understand and fight in yourselves? You are a part of this Brahmavidya disseminational process. So whatever you do, whether it is writing, cooking, feeding, looking after the guests, closing the door, opening the door, conducting the prayers, taking bath, some actions you do for your own person, some action you do for others, and some action you do for helping some activities. Every activity is equally linked, either it is the oil, or it is the wick or it is the brass vessel – all the three put together alone will give rise to a flame. If the Brahmavidya is the flame then all of you are either oil, or the wick, or the vessel. Not only that, the presence of air and oxygen, the lamp is placed somewhere either in the room or the hall. When are you going to think that all the activities in this world are equally associated with the Supreme Reality?
What is this earth? The earth is a creation or a fall from the sun. What is this sun? It is a star which has been formed in the endless space. And what is this space? It is an extension or an expression of the supreme brilliance called consciousness. So the sun, the piece that broke from it and finally got condensed into the mother of planet we live on. Are they not equally the supreme reality? If they are not how will you ever think of and understand the supreme? So my dear souls, your intelligence has to be sharp, you have to become astute; your mind will have to be pious, serene, pure to understand the wholesome and inseparable character of existence and existential activities.
The other day when somebody said that the relationship is only work relationship. At least that work relationship is there. Without work I don’t think any relationship will be there. What relationship do I have with my hands? And what relationship do I have with my legs? What relationship do I have with my tongue? Is it not my hands are moving and facilitating my life, my purposes? The legs are also equally fulfilling their role. The mouth and the tongue, the teeth, everything is, the nose, the lungs, the heart, the circulation of blood – everything is ancillary to my existence. And my existence is what? It is a formation from the world. And what is the world? It is a formation from the supreme reality.
So, where is it that I become non-divine, I become un-sublime, I become ungodly? So it is very much vexing me when I hear that we have only a work relationship. Suppose there is no work we are all keeping quiet looking at each other – get up, go, even hypothetically let us think, I am going to ask you, “Let us go and sit in our sound proof room for two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening”, suppose I give you such a program will you be prepared to come with me and sit there? There is no work relationship. It is a meditation relationship. Come and let us sit. I don’t think any one of you will be able to spend four hours in the sound proof room meditating. My dear souls, there is nectar in what I say. Perhaps this is a knowledge you will never get from anywhere.
The entire success of your life is in divinizing every moment of your life. The purpose of meditation, the purpose of reading, the purpose of sadhana is to have this sense of all fold divinity. Though I say it is all fold divinity and you are looking at the objects of the world through the senses, understand that divinization is not taking place in your eyes or even in your brain. It is taking place in your consciousness. The consciousness has been thinking about the other things. It must start thinking about itself. Go on counting the number of waves, the endless waves. The shorter course will be, why should I count the number of waves. There is no wave at all. All are the ocean water. Let it rise, let it travel or not travel. The ocean doesn’t swell, it doesn’t move, the salinity does not change. Let the number of waves be X, or X plus infinity or X plus infinity squared or infinity cubed. What difference does it make? It is all, the ocean, the saline water, the earth sustaining, the earth sustaining expanse, fluid expanse and depth - this is how you cut short, cut short the whole sadhana, climax and consummate, this is what you have to understand. There is nothing that is disconnected from God, or the supreme reality. There is nothing that is dislodging you from your consciousness.
Now, can you take up a process of thinking? So in the extra hours of the day when your activity does not occupy you with serious thinking take up this spontaneous thought, the independent thoughts of the mind, and let those thoughts revolve around your sadhana, around your pursuit. And this sadhana is, is, is, is absolutely inner. It is always bearing upon your mind, intelligence, and ego. Nothing else can be a sadhana and it should transform your mind with purity, intelligence with knowledge, ego with sublimation.
