Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru.
Our personality is a composite one. In this composite personality, the entire body, which is an aggregate of matter and energy, is only for conducting some activities. Some activities are incoming, others are outgoing. The incoming activities are by the sensory organs like eyes, ears, nose, etc. The outgoing activities are through hands, feet, and the other organs of activity. The entire body is only an instrument. Whenever there is an instrument, there must be a wielder of that instrument. That wielder is the inner personality. This inner personality consists of mind, given to thinking, and generating emotions and responses; then intelligence, given to reason, rationality, and the quest for knowledge. These are the two constituents of the inner personality. There is of course the ego, let it be there.
In religious, spiritual, yogic, and philosophical life, what we are trying to bring about is a sublime transformation in the inner personality. Will you be sure of this? We want a transformation. What is that transformation? Think about it. What is mind, its content and structure? What is intelligence, its content and structure? It is in these that we bring about a transformation. How can this transformation come?
When we start having our food, different types of nutritious food are taken in. What happens? They get assimilated into the system, transformed into blood. So the deficient blood will become healthy blood, provided you supply the right nutrients. The food items that you are consuming are material in character. But when they are consumed and the alimentary canal does its function of absorbing, assimilating the whole items, their qualities and essences, then you will find that the material structure transforms into a biological character. As far as I understand, blood is a mystery. We know all the ingredients of blood. Suppose you mix them up, it will not become blood at all. What we are eating is nothing but matter in different forms. But by absorbing and assimilating them in our system everything is converted into red blood.
My dear seekers, please understand, there is a similar process by virtue of which the mind and intelligence also absorb their products. Suppose you don’t have sodium in the blood. If you are given sodium, that sodium will be assimilated to the extent possible in the system and the deficiency will be filled. In the same manner, whatever spiritual, noble, and benevolent attitudes you don’t have, all these attitudes, when cultivated in the form of inputs, you will find the mind starts growing them. It becomes part of the mind. Similarly the intelligence, either it is not given to reason and knowledge, or it is given to wrong reason and wrong knowledge, when the right input is provided to the intelligence, that also transforms its nature. Now your emphasis will be, by doing what will the right inputs for absorption of the mind and intelligence can be had. That is where our shastras excel.
Parikhshit went on listening to Srimad Bhagavatam exclusively for seven days. Can you imagine? His body had no function at all because there was no food. Then what will the body do, and he did not do any activity also, there was no strength also in him. So the sole one week was totally given to absorbing and assimilating what Suka muni said. Parikshit was only hearing, very rarely making questions and Suka Maharishi was delivering the message. The transformation was wholesome, instantaneous, and in a way complete also, to the extent Parikshit wanted. I don’t know whether you will take it into your heart; this is absolutely possible. For seven days Suka Maharishi went on talking, talking, talking talking … and Parikshit heard, heard, heard. Understandingly he heard. So the transformation was in the mind on the one hand and in the intelligence on the other. In the intelligence level, in the form of knowledge; in the mind level, in the form of thoughts, responses, and reactions.
Now, are you providing a similar input into your life? This is what I am asking. If so, what will be the percentage that you are providing? So everybody complains that I am meditating. A good middle aged girl came here yesterday. She was saying, “I am given to a Yoga practice, we take Patanjali yoga, I meditate, etc etc., but this meditation does not change the thought pattern. What is the way by which the whole thoughts will become divine?” Actually it is a secret, nobody knows. This spirituality is so simple, very simple according to me and very easy, provided you know it well.
One simple exercise that I can suggest is - find God in everything. Just like water condensed becomes ice, white snow or ice; in the same manner, God has become this pāñcabhautika world and you are a product of it. While the pañcabhutas are matter and energy, you have something more in the form of mind, intelligence, and ego which are not matter. So the entire world is God condensed and you are also God personified. Can you start thinking in this manner? Can you imagine the effect? You will be moving about being active everywhere but all these will be besmeared and engulfed by Godliness. Within Godliness everything else will go on.
So the difference between world and God has to be dissolved in your mind and the separation between God and you also has to be done away with. This is the beautiful jñāna path. It’s very, very easy. Others will go on practicing, practicing, practicing, practicing … even after decades the change is not coming, because they think God and world are different. How are they different? God is all-pervading. There is no place or property besides God. Then, how can the world be different from God? It is God transformed, God condensed and your body is part of it, it is also condensed. In addition you have the subtle consciousness also. So you have bodily God and inwardly consciousness God also.
So we have to transform our whole thinking process, as a result of which instead of thinking that “I am a worldly product living and interacting with the world”, you have to think and feel that “I am a Godly product interacting with the Godly world.” Once you are able to do so, you will find your mind will start generating very divine, beautiful, ecstatic, noble, benign, and benevolent thoughts. It is not a control of mind that we want. It is a transformation and sublimation of the mind that we have to achieve.
Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru.
