Any traditional practice, no matter how long it has been in vogue, was begun at one time by some people. Hence, viewed wisely, all traditions must be flexible and harmonious with the advancement of civilization. There are two fundamental aspects in our Temple practices: Transitory and Eternal. The transitory aspects must change according to the timely needs of the society, always ensuring that the Eternal sublimity is preserved and enhanced. Advocates of tradition have therefore to understand that to stand rigidly and violently against change will be verily to destroy the sanctity and purpose of the Temple Institution itself.
