He then speaks about yajñas, the ritualistic sacrifices. Sāttvika sacrifices are those done without any eye on the results promised. All yajñas by themselves need not be holy. Only when done with the holy attitude they become so (17.11). The holy attitude consists in taking the mind away from any specific promised result or outcome. The dis-identification (asakti) that should govern performance of all such holy acts has been the subject of Bhagavad Gita right from the beginning (3.19). |
