Harih Om Tat Sat. Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru. Jai Guru.
Yesterday I spoke something to you about samudram-āpaḥ praviśanti yadvat. Did you ever think about it after I spoke? If you did not think about it, I feel my talk is not at all useful; it is a waste. It is such a new point of view, a very special truth that I had brought forth yesterday. I don’t think anybody has thought about this subject in this manner.
The first point is that all our interactions are initiated by the mind, commencing from the mind, resting on the mind and conclude in the mind. All experiences are inner, inner and inner. If all experiences are inner, interactions are also inner. But by the very word ‘interaction’, we mean we interacting with others. So the others are there outside. So the interaction will always have an object part of it, at least half of it. This is what everybody feels. Even now you will be feeling like that. But against this is the truth argued out and presented that interactions, though seemingly interactional are not at all object based. In terms of experience, they are totally internal. This point, do you understand and agree? If that is so, what about the interactional impacts and outcomes? They are also inner. Though in the case of ocean, vapour rose, finally came back in the form of snow and rainfall and they went up the mountain. From there they flow. So there is a clear distinction between ocean and river, though water is the same. Is there any such demarcation between the object part and the subject part in our interactional experiences?
In our interactional experiences, in as much as they are experience, is there any such demarcation between the interacting individual and the rest of the objects? Within the mind, the mind itself becomes the subject, the mind itself becomes the object, the mind itself becomes the interaction, it itself becomes the outcome and impact. There is not at all a speck of external or additional factor there.
So when we say we should not be overpowered by interactional impacts but our mind should overwhelm the interactional impacts, when I say that, do you understand the consequence, the import? Because there is nothing objective, solid, gross or external which the mind has to assimilate. Mind has to assimilate only its own responses which it is already doing.
Millions of thoughts have arisen in your mind. Have they been stored anywhere? So the mind has already produced thoughts and it is also dissolving, producing, dissolving, producing, dissolving, without implying any space or in-between factor. Mind, thought, I produced and I kept it there. No such separation, nothing is there. So the mind is already dissolving and assimilating its products. When interactional outcomes also transpire in the mind, will it not and can it not assimilate them also? Then why are we fretting and fuming? Is it not because of sheer delusion, lack of introspection? This is what He means by saying:
Unless you start contemplating, meditating upon this truth, you will never know it. In the case of ocean, there is a quantitative input into the ocean but that quantity is already vaporized from the sea. So there is no overall enhancement. This example is good but not perfect. In the case of our interactions, nothing in the way of interactional experience has an external locus or focus.
Cannot the mind assimilate its own products? When somebody scolds us, we are finding it unbearable. Tell me, what are you finding unbearable? The person and his scolding? The person is outside; you have nothing to do with him and the words have already gone. Then what is it that you are forbearing? You are forbearing only the impact it has made in your mind. That impact is your mental or that impact is somebody else’s? And cannot your mind assimilate its own impacts? This is the important point that I have brought about. What do you say ‘P’? Is it not something very very revealing? Will you please catch this point and work on it, work on it, work on it? If you get it hundred percent, you are totally a different person; you are enlightened. You should be able to hold on to this point. This is what he means when He says:
Understand the truth, interactions are seemingly external, but reflected upon they are only internal. That adhyātma alone is there, ādibhautika is not there. And identify yourself with the adhyātmic truth and make sure that you don’t fall from it. Whenever I used to explain, our ‘L’ used to say, “Swamiji, in this case we have no problem. What is there to worry about?” “Yes. We have no problem and we don’t have to worry about it.”
Even when somebody scolds us, are we actually worried about the scolding and he or are we worried about our intolerance about the scolding? We are not prepared to accept it and we are not prepared to forbear it. So is the problem ours exclusively or in that problem Mr.X also comes? I don’t know whether you have got this point. It is a very, very great point; it is my personal discovery and realization.
Similarly, I say another thing also. You have a desire, maybe for getting an elephant or buying an aircraft; let it be anything. In the desiring process, is there any external factor? And when that desire is fulfilled, you are pursuing that desire, are you pursuing an object of desire or are you pursuing your own desiring process? Desiring process. When you get the object, is not your desire getting fulfilled? So the whole thing is your mind giving rise to a desire, your mind pursuing that desireful current and the mind starts feeling it is fulfilled. When it is fulfilled, the desire becomes extinct. The test of desire fulfillment is it will no more be there in you. So desire fulfillment means desire extinction. If this is the truth, why don’t you remain in a desire extinction state? Try for that. That is also a pursuit.
Not to have a desire and feel desire fulfillment is desire extinction. So I will try desire extinction itself directly which becomes centered in me. So I have nothing to do with the world. I will pursue this and I will be contended always without implying a speck of matter from the world. This is what they say:
But we don’t understand. We feel desiring means object; fulfillment means getting the object. Getting the object I agree but getting the object is followed by what in your mind? Unless that desire vanishes from you, even getting the object, will it be of any consequence? That desire should no more be in you. So when the desire is not there in the mind, you have all fulfillment in the world. If a person starts understanding this and working on it, where will he be? Instead of interactional impacts overpowering us, the mind should start overwhelming them.
So our interactions at every point of time, ‘S’ I don’t know whether you understand it, whatever may be the external relationship, external linkages, interactions will always be, always be, positive, positive enrichment, enrichment for you. No interaction will be enervating. It will always be enriching. And the strength of the mind is not enjoying sukha, the strength of the mind is forbearing duhkha. By enjoying sukha, the power of the mind never increases. Rather it becomes weak. On the other hand, if you start suffering duhkha, with every suffering, the mind grows. That is why people are given the impact of suffering only to empower their mind.
Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru. Jai Guru.
