Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru.
Last night during the satsang, I was speaking about how the saadhana should be aimed at and what it ultimately brings about. I was saying that, it brings about all kinds of normalcy and naturality and lightness in a person.
Initial stages of saadhana will be like over eating and taking medicines – digestives, to make you feel comfortable. The other extreme will be under-eat and starve. What is the best, the best will be to eat moderately and keep your health intact. Exactly the same is the case with the mind and intelligence also. True saadhana aims at making them very normal and light.
Our Vedanta sadhana accomplishes it by making the saadhaka think about the soul which one, a saadhaka, always is. If you are the soul, you don’t have to get anything; you don’t have to remove anything. You have to be what you are. This is the best form of naturality. In our Parampara, taking Deeksha and doing deeksha saadhana is something very very indispensable. Sometimes it makes me feel sorry that the people who are initiated by me into Brahmavidya sakshatkara - they are not able to understand the uniqueness, greatness, conclusiveness and the finality of the saadhana. After having taken deeksha, it is up to the seeker to make his seeking exclusive and wholesome.
What does it say? Close the door, sit inside the room and be alone, and look into your own within, handle your mind, handle your ego, handle your intelligence. The truth doesn't come from anywhere, it does not go also from anywhere, it is always present, realize it. In realizing it, the purity of the mind is important, and the resoluteness of the intelligence is important. If you are not able to progress in your sadhana sitting alone inside a room after closing the door, then you are not going to improve anywhere in the world. Even if an improvement is there it’s not going to be static.
Many people come and seek deeksha, I explain to them what is deeksha, even after that when they take up deeksha, they don’t follow the saadhana and they sometimes have distractions and diversions also. One can read books, one can listen to the talks, but so far as deeksha and saadhana are concerned, the seeker will have to be exclusively fond of it, and admit no diversion or dilution. Everywhere you will find, ananya-bhakti is extolled, ananya means exclusive, unflinching devotion. As I was mentioning day-before-yesterday or so, you rely upon God, understand that he is all knowing all powerful and everywhere present. If you rely upon such a God, do you have to pray unnecessarily? Do you have to remind him frequently? The feeling that you should remind and pray specially for, is the one to be eliminated from the mind.
A seeker progresses from one stage to the other, whenever you have a problem - a mind problem, the problem has to be resolved or dissolved in the mind itself. Throughout my life, I have never entertained diversions, certainly not, just like we divert the children and their attention, I have never liked it. If there is a sorrow or a problem in the mind, you have to digest it and dissolve it and I think only time will be necessary - why? Because you have to apply the mind to digest and dissolve it. Any problem which the mind creates is also subject to resolution or dissolution. The feeling that my mind is affected, and it will be alright after some time, I think that is the best feeling.
You know the mind that you have, is the most powerful thing in the whole creation. It is from the mind that the thoughts evolve and it is these thoughts that are translated into action and it is such actions that have brought about whatever you find in the human world like nuclear reactors, sky-scrapers, ships, air crafts and what not. Everything is a result of thought, if this much can be made, we can even destroy the earth, so much of power we have. This much is given to the human mind, what should be the enormity of power so far as God or the supreme consciousness is concerned.
So, with your saadhana and deeksha saadhana, all that you have to do is to sit, sit, sit and do saadhana, saadhana, saadhana. By this saadhana, you will be enriched, you will be purified, you will be enlightened. If you think a diversion is necessary, it is not at all right. There are people who go to several places and several persons and listen to something, trying to compare notes - this is better, that is better, he is better, she is better. I think any such thought is prostitution actually. Let many knowers be there, why should we compare them and contrast them. If you have to learn anything from them, learn.
After we took up sanyaasa and came to Kerala, when we started the parivrajaka life, within a matter of one or two months, one Swami Atmananada met us, he took interest in us, he was at that time, the President of Sadhu Samaj, Kerala.
It was he who took us to Anandashram when Swami Ramdas and Krishanbai both were present. I can tell you the only ashram that I visited and which is worth remembering in my life is the Anandashram visit. I had an occasion to stay there for quite a few weeks to look after this Atmanand Swamiji who had post-operative recuperation and he wanted me to look after him, giving him bath and other things, so I went there. I moved very closely with Mataji and Swami Ramdas. Whatever idea, if at all I wanted to have about an ashram, how I should live, what should be my ashram like if at all there was one and what is the cardinal in running an ashram - all these things, I found, I got, just like many full moons rising in the sky. I never wanted to visit any other ashram.
I have had no interest in going on a pilgrimage also, though an all-India pilgrimage was taken up because some people came and requested me that you should come, along with me some people also went, that is what they were interested in. Mataji Sulabhadevi wanted to have a pilgrimage, so I accompanied. No where I found anything good, peaceful or inspiring. On the other hand I found a lot of - I cannot call it a disillusionment - a lot of exposure which told me very clearly that nowhere is anything. It is all in your own mind.
You know this saadhana, which I am giving you, which in our line represents and contains, it is so beautiful, so exclusive that I wonder how may of you understand its value and purpose, its place and importance and how many of you cherish it.
My dear Children, you have to do a lot of introspection and self-evaluation, to know that whatever you are seeking, it is at zero distance from you. It is no other than your mind and mind substance, it is no other than your own thought and thinking substance. That itself is the consciousness, like it produces thoughts, emotions, feelings, memories, ideas, sankalpas etc. It is that which has created this pancha-bhautik world. That which has created this infinite space. In the human mind level it cannot go to that extent, but certainly it can rise to a great level and proportion, so much so that you will feel all the peace, joy and fulfillment. I would like you to tell everybody in this world, that this is the best climax and fulfillment of human life when they say that why are you going, what are you doing etc, why don’t you inform them? This is not merely for me but for all of you also. As your mother, I have done the best and doing the best, and all the blessings will be for you and your family. This is not going astray, this is not doing anything immoral, unethical or bad, this is the best that everyone should do and you should also do it, perhaps 5 or 6 years earlier than I have taken up. In this way, unless you become vocal, when is this mist of ignorance going to be removed? So evaluate yourself and be very open about it. They will speak their language quite good and correct, you speak your language also, ultimately, I find that it is your own weakness, lack of understanding and confidence, to tell people lovingly what you find. If you have found something sweet and endearing will you not distribute it to the others?
That kind of a sharing and distribution should be your attitude.
Think about it.
Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru. Jai Guru.
