"Devotion is a means as well as its true end when it grows into a full treasure. When devotion becomes a treasure, you will need nothing more for inner fullness or affluence. As devotion grows, it will begin to free you of all desire, hatred and fear. It will relieve poverty, either by making you amply resourceful or by taking away from you the very feeling of poverty. Devotion also will remove your weakness, generating untold strength and confidence."

  ।। १ ।।

O Rama, one truly reaches the eternal abode (of Paramātman), assisted by his own handsome intellect and befriended by sound discrimination (vichāra and viveka); and not by any other (religious or secular) activity, nor by chanting of Names.

।। २ ।।
With what dilligence people acquire the (fleeting) objects of the world, with the same dilligence should they increase their sense of discrimination (viveka) - for, from the latter alone will result a great and everlasting gain.

 ।। ३ ।।
When the contracted notion 'I am this alone' (referring to the body) melts away, dissolves, then indeed the 'universal expansiveness' (the mighty soul awareness) arises, surges up, within.

।। ४ ।।
Do not lament upon or grieve on account of the heyas (the unacceptables); do not also be overinfluenced by the upadeyas (the acceptables). (Instead) renounce both the heya-aadeya views (that is to say, the sense of differentiation, namely, the acceptable and unacceptable), and resting in what remains, be resolute.

।। ५ ।।
In regard to all affairs at all times, whether they are your own or another's, whenever either success or failure takes place, be neither delighted nor depressed. (Instead, remain stable-minded).

।। ६ ।।
Focussing your attention always on the supra-worldly abode (sarvātīta-pada), possessing a mind as auspicious and graceful as the full moon, neither revolting nor rejoicing (being free from depression as well as delight) - he who lives thus is not tormented by samsāra (worldly life).

 ।। ७ ।।
Expressing concern and sympathy to the friend and foe alike, functioning always with conviction that whatever one does is really guided by God; he who lives thus is never inflicted by samsāra.

।। ८ ।।
He who neither appreciates nor depreciates, neither grieves nor desires, and is also free from iṣṭa-aniṣṭa's (desirables and undesirables), gets never pained or afflicted by samsāra.

।। ९ ।।
Worldly life (samsāra) does not inflict him, who is soft-spoken by nature, and when asked by others speaks out what is the best ideal for each, and also reconciles himself mentally with the tendencies of all beings.
