“The paths leading man to god or Truth are said to be many. I will speak only of the shortest. It is to recognize God as the Self in you and then to find Him out. What is the distance then between you and God, between you and yourself? Ah, there is no distance at all, a full Zero! Yet, how dare you say to find God and Truth is hard?’’

An Abode of Learning and Experiential Wisdom

Poojya Swamiji explains it thus :

“This Ashram is actually a Brahmavidya abode. Right from the beginning I did not have any idea of establishing an institution. If I were having an idea, I would have proceeded in a different manner. To establish an institution means to think constantly about the institution and to recruit or allow people to come and join us with a view to do institutional work. That would have been a little different. It is based primarily on man power, not seeking.

Whoever has got the aptitude to work in an institution and take the institution’s ideals to the people by way of a suitable propaganda, I think it will be different. Whereas I only had one thought in my mind. In the same manner I happened to see my Gurudev and I liked him, I sought deeksha from him. After getting the deeksha for me deeksha and my Guru were everything. I did not think of anything else. It is that deeksha and the sādhana I did very fervently that you can say made me the way I was and I am.

Swamiji's Teachings

blk-swamiji-lt-img

Poojya Swamiji says that the real focus

  • of devotional practices is not God, but the devotee's own mind and behaviour;
  • of karmayoga is not action but the attitude of the mind with which an action is performed;
  • of knowledge is not knowledge, but the purification and expansion of the seeker's mind.

  ।। १ ।।

tvam tu sarvaṁ parityajya snehaṁ svajanabanduṣu
mayyāveaśaḥ manaḥ samyak samadṛg vichārasva gām ।।
Abandoning fully all the attachment you have for your relatives and centering your mind completely on Me, ramble about on the earth looking upon all with an equal eye.

।। २ ।।
yadīdaṁ manasā vāchā cakṣurbhyāṁ ṣravaṇādibhiḥ
naṣvaraṁ gṛhyamāṇaṁ ca viddhi māyā manomayam ।।
Whatever is being apprehended with the mind, speech, eyes, ears, etc. know all that to be a creation of the mind and hence illusory and transient.

 ।। ३ ।।
puṁso'ayuktasya nānātho bhramaḥ sa guṇadoshabhāk
karmākarmavikarmeti guṇdoshadhiyo bhida।।
Only that man whose mind is not steady falls a prey to the confusion giving rise to the perception of diversity, which leads to the sense of good and evil and in the eyes of an individual having the notion of good and evil there exists the distinction of karma, akarma and vikarma

।। ४ ।।
tasmād yuktendriyagrāmo yuktachitta idaṁ jagat
ātmanīkṣasva vitatātmānaṁ mayyadhiṣvare ।।
Therefore having controlled your mind and senses, visualize this world as projected in your own Self and see the Self as existing in Me, the Supreme Lord.

।। ५ ।।
jñānavijñānasaṁyukta ātmabhūtaḥ śarīraṅam
ātmānubhāvatuṣṭātmā nāntarāyairvihanyase ।।
Possesed of knowledge and realization, your mind being saturated with the realization of the Self and becoming one with the Self of all embodied creatures, you will no longer be baulked by impediments.

।। ६ ।।
doṣbuddhayobhayātīto niṣedhānna nivartate
guṅabuddhayā ca vihitaṁ na karoti yathārbhakaḥ
He who has transcended the sense of good and evil does not refrain wrong action becuase he perceives any evil in it. Nor does he perform prescribed duties because he thinks well of them. He acts indeed like a child.

 ।। ७ ।।
sarvebhūtasuhṛchānto jñānavijñānaniṣchayaḥ
paśchyan madātmakaṁ viśwaṁ na vipaddyeta vai pūnaḥ
He who has gained definiteness about the Self through knowledge coupled with direct experience, who feels friendly to all creatures and who sees the universe as one with Me, never undergoes suffering in the form of transmigration.

।। ८ ।।
sohaṁ mamāhmiti mudhmatirvigāḍhmtvamāyayā virachitātmani sanubandhe
tattvañjasā nigaditaṁ bhavatā yathāhaṁ saṁsādhayāmi bhagavan anuśādhi bhṛtyaṁ
Udhava submits:
I am ignorant, O Lord, for I am attached to this body and its relations, which are the creation of your Māyā. I am immersed in the notion of 'I' and 'mine'. Therefore, instruct me your servant properly so that I may easily attain to the ideal of renunciation as taught by you.
