"In acquiring material wealth all are not equally blessed. But in gaining mental and spiritual wealth, every one has an equal chance. Beginning from character and disciplines and ending with supreme kindness and goodness, the wealth of the mind is displayed in abundance before all. The question is only who wants, and, to which measure !"

About our Ashram ...

An Abode of Learning and Experiential Wisdom

Poojya Swamiji explains it thus :

“This Ashram is actually a Brahmavidya abode. Right from the beginning I did not have any idea of establishing an institution. If I were having an idea, I would have proceeded in a different manner. To establish an institution means to think constantly about the institution and to recruit or allow people to come and join us with a view to do institutional work. That would have been a little different. It is based primarily on man power, not seeking.

Whoever has got the aptitude to work in an institution and take the institution’s ideals to the people by way of a suitable propaganda, I think it will be different. Whereas I only had one thought in my mind. In the same manner I happened to see my Gurudev and I liked him, I sought deeksha from him. After getting the deeksha for me deeksha and my Guru were everything. I did not think of anything else. It is that deeksha and the sādhana I did very fervently that you can say made me the way I was and I am.

Poojya Swamiji says that the real focus

  • of devotional practices is not God, but the devotee's own mind and behaviour;
  • of karmayoga is not action but the attitude of the mind with which an action is performed;
  • of knowledge is not knowledge, but the purification and expansion of the seeker's mind.

Mokṣa-Sādhanā - 3

Here are 9 verses taken from the most handsome and ancient Vedantic text Yoga Vasiṣṭha, which records the dialogue between Sri Rāma and Sage Vasiṣṭha. The verses belong to the Nīrvāṇa Prakaraṇa and further to the story of Choodala (a queen) and Śikhidhwaja, her consort. This is the most copious and revealing of the several stories told by Vasiṣṭhadev and as you can find, it illustrates the true nature of spiritual life and attainment as also the secret of gaining peace and gracefulness. My dear souls, this is the best gift I can think of giving you on this occasion.

  ।। १ ।।

yatkinchidyanna kinchiccha tajjānāmi yathasthitam
yathodayaṁ yathānāśaṁ tenāsmi śrīmatī sthitā ।।
Having known whatever is, whatever is not, how has come all this, how is this all existing and finally going into non-expression, I live with cheerfulness constantly on my face.

।। २ ।।
bhogaira bhuktaistuṣyāmi bhktairiva sudūragati:
na hriṣyāmi na kuṣyāmi tenāsmi śrīmatī sthitā।।
The enjoyments which are yet to be had as well as those already had long back, both delight me equally. Neither elation nor depression sways me. That is how I look extremely joyful.

 ।। ३ ।।
yekaivākāśsaṁkāśe kevale hṛdaye rame
na rame rājalīlāsu tenāsmi śrīmatī sthitā।।
In the most ethereal recess of my own heart am I dwelling constantly. Not in the royal sports and games. Hence it is that I look exceptionally graceful.

।। ४ ।।
ātmanyeva hi tiṣṭhami hyāsanodyānasadmasu
na bhogeṣu na lajjāsu tenāhaṁ śrīmatī sthitā।।
Whether I sit on the royal thronesor stroll in the gardens and palaces, my resting place is always my own inner self. I am thus indifferent to the royal delights and pretences. A contant look of blessedness thus, graces me all through.

।। ५ ।।
jagatā prabhurevāsmi na kinchinmātraroopiṇī
Ityātmanyeva tuṣyāmi tenāhaṁ śrīmatī sthitā ।।
Realizing that I have no specific personality, I have become the Lord of all the worlds. This is the outcome of all the worlds. This is the outcome of remaining content with my own inmost self. Naturally a fine look of gracefulness adorns my face.

।। ६ ।।
idam cāhahmidam nāhaṁ satyā cāhaṁ na chāpyahaṁ
sarvamsmi na kichavachāchch tenāhaṁ śrīmatī sthitā
I am this as well as the not-this. Both the true and the untrue am I. I am, in short, the all. Equally so I am the nothing. This realization of mine gives a radiant appearance to my body.

 ।। ७ ।।
na sukhaṁ prārthaye nārtham nānarthaṁ netarāṁ sthitiṁ
yathā prāptena hṛṣyāmi tenāhaṁ śrīmatī sthitā
I crave not for happiness. Neither riches nor poverty and the life attract me. I am fully content with whatever comes on my way. Hence I live with immeasurable peace and brilliance.

।। ८ ।।
tanuvidveṣrājabhiḥ prajñābhiḥ śāstradṛṣṭibhiḥ
rame saha vayasyābhiḥ tenāham ṣrīmatī sthitā
Those are the kings whom I have chosen for my company, who shape their insight on the basis of the śāstras and who have well subdued their passions. I sport with them freely and the delight born of such sporting is what makes me look so very handsome to you.

।। ९ ।।
paśyāmi yannayanaraśmibhirindriyairvā
chittena ceha hi tadanga n kinchideva
paśyāmi tadvirahitaṁ tu na kichidantaḥ
                    paśyāmi samyagiti nāth cirodayāmi ।।
O Lord, I see that everything perceived by the senses of conceived by the mind is really nothing. But something I see very clearly within myself which refutes the grasp of the senses and the mind. This inner thing constitutes the completeness of vision. That is again that which makes me look bright and pleasing, like the full moon.
