As exposure to sensory objects distracts the mind with attraction and repulsion, spiritual wisdom and absorption into the Self fills the same mind with inspiration, strength and poise. With spiritual insight deepening, the power of sensory objects to generate kaama and krodha declines. The process works not by shunning sensory objects or interactions altogether, but by taking to them abstemiously and building simultaneously the subjective strength through introspection and dispassion. Here in lies the secret of spiritual saadhana.
