"Let not world-objects be your mind’s master. Let them be, if at all, subservient to the mind. To be spiritual is not to look for one’s delight and fulfillment in the objects of the world. The mind that causes delight through any object can also provide delight without such an object. Delight in reality belongs to the mind alone. It is verily mind’s own gift."

Profundity of the Self-state

The mind resting upon the Self is such a comprehensive and ultimate spiritual state that it leaves nothing more to be sought or gained. Krishna explains how full such an inward steadiness and restfulness is:

यथा दीपो निवातस्थो नेङ्गते सोपमा स्मृता ।
योगिनो यतचित्तस्य युञ्जतो योगमात्मनः ।।

Just as a lamp placed in a windless place, has an unflickering flame, the disciplined mind of a yogi remains firm, still and poised.

This statement is immensely profound to be treated casually. The life in the world, given as it is to a variety of activities, always destabilizes the mind, making it desultory and distracted. If this plight is to be redressed, the pursuit of yoga is the only means.
