“The paths leading man to god or Truth are said to be many. I will speak only of the shortest. It is to recognize God as the Self in you and then to find Him out. What is the distance then between you and God, between you and yourself? Ah, there is no distance at all, a full Zero! Yet, how dare you say to find God and Truth is hard?’’

Clarification of various doubts about Sannyaasa and its relevance in the modern age.

Description:

To free the mind of all notions of doership through enlightenment, is the spirit and purpose of sannyasa. Without such inner renunciation, no spiritual enlightenment can be had, nor will sannyasa become meaningful. This booklet discusses sannyasa in this light. While seekers will find it useful and relevant, those walking the ascetic path will find additional relevance in the discussion.

Extracts from the Book:

The values and the eternal message of renunciation a Sannyaasin represents, are applicable to you all. You need only to understand, appreciate and practise these values in your professional, domestic and social life. In fact, spiritual knowledge and dispassion are only meant to enrich you. When you pursue this saadhana sincerely and diligently, then indeed wholesome renunciation will follow naturally, as a consequence of mind-expansion...

A Sannyaasin given to the pursuit of Brahmavidya will naturally be immersed in contemplative and introspectional levels of discipline and refinement. External, seemingly rigorous standards do not apply to such a one. To evaluate him on the basis of external insignia would be wrong, a disrespect to spirituality itself.

Rather than being given to poverty by force, or riches by chance, he will be given to the refinement and insight of being unaffected by and equal towards both. If and when he is able to rise to this transcendental level, adorned by the Supreme wisdom, raaja-yoga of unaffectedness, indifference and fullness of joy, he fulfills the true purpose of his sannyaasa. Not till then.
