As fire is encircled by smoke, mirror smeared with
dirt, the foetus by amnion, so is knowledge shrouded
by desire.
Note: Krishna has described the plight as passion, as
hatred, as it is the same note that becomes both. They
hinder and delude by eclipsing knowledge. It is like
smoke covering the brilliance and heat of fire. With a
little blow, it disappears and fire begins to blaze. This
is the satvic obstruction to knowledge, which can be
removed easily.
But the process can be harder and more time
consuming, like cleaning a mirror covered by dust. If
one is not sensitive to it, dust accumulates more and
more, and the mirror loses its efficiency.
The still harder plight is that of the foetus, inside the
amniotic fluid, a handiwork necessary for the foetus
to grow. Clearance at this stage is more involved,
calling for greater attention and perseverance. Before
the hindrance grows to be more involved, strive to
dispense with it.
