सागरस्तव: (Saagarastava - In praise of the Oceans)

 
As part of the austerities connected with the December 2013 Vishnu Sahasranaama Vishwa Yajna Mahotsava, Sacred Earth was collected from Chatur Dhaama's, Water was collected from Seven Rivers as well as the Seven Seas. Before the Earth / Water was collected, Poojya Swamiji's devotees recited this benedictory shloka written by Poojya Swamiji specially for this occassion - and then collected the resource. We reproduce this shloka here for all.
 
 
धरित्रिसन्तानमनस्तटेषु  एकात्मभावं परिस्त्रष्टुकामान् ।
   सर्वोदधिभ्यो जलसंञ्चयार्थं समागतान् स्वीकुरू सर्वतात ।।   १

O father of all, be kindly bless us, who have come to collect water from the ocean, intending to instil in the children of Earth the feeling of oneness and cohesion.

समुद्रधारणादेव भूमिर्धन्या प्रशोभते । 
समुद्रादेव वर्षाणि सस्यवृक्षलतादय: ।
  भाैमजीवनसमृद् ध्यर्थं सन्ति काले हि सर्वथा ।।   २

The earth shines everywhere only being held by the ocean. From the ocean alone occurs timely rainfall, the whole vegetation consisting of trees, creepers and the like, to preserve and protect all embodied creatures.

नदिनां प्रभवश्चैव तथैव विलयस्सदा ।
    समुद्रतलमित्येतन्निश्चितं तत्वदर्शिभि: ।।  ३

That the source and terminus of the rivers is the wide expanse of ocean, is the considered view of the Seers of Truth. 

नानाभाैममलं सर्वं सम्यक् - स्वीकृत्य सागर: ।
    पवित्रजलवायून् - हि नित्यं यच्छति सर्वदा ।।  ४

Welcoming all the impurities from the earth, the ocean always renders purity to water and air. 

मनोविशालतायांस्तु प्रसिध्दा सागरोपमा ।
     सज्जना: सन्ति सर्वत्र समुद्रह्ृदयान्विता: ।।  ५

Sea is the famous illustration for the expansion of the mind. All enlightened ones possess a heart like the expanse of the sea. 

व्यावहारिकसङ्घर्षं ईष्टानिष्टप्रतिक्रिया: ।
स्वीकृत्यैताश्च सर्वेषां स्वात्मसात्करणाय हि ।
     मन:प्रभावो लोकेऽस्मिन् भृशमस्तु पुन:पुन: ।।  ६

For relieving the tension and stress from life’s interactions as well as from the mind’s own likes and dislikes, and also for receiving and accepting everything everywhere, and for assimilating it all with enrichment, let there be always on this earth abundant potential and splendour of the mind.

अस्माकं जीवितं नित्यं गुणमूल्यसमन्वितम् ।
सुन्दरं सुभगं श्रेष्ठं पुर्णतालब्धये क्षमम् ।
     तात त्वं स्निग्धमनसा कुरु सर्वार्थसाधक ।।  ७

O great father, O bestower of fulfilment, with your mind full of affection and sympathy, make our life beautiful, fortunate, exalted, and rich in values, so that it becomes fit for attaining the ecstasy of fullness.

समुद्रसहितां भूमिं-आकाशं शुद्धनिर्मलम् ।
   सर्वेषां चित्तशुद्ध्यर्थं  नमामो विनयान्विता: ।।  ८

We humbly prostrate before the earth together with the oceans, and the pure immaculate space, praying for the mental purity of all.

लोकसंग्रथनार्थाय प्रजानां क्षेमवृद्धये ।
  यच्छानुज्ञां जलं नेतुं सर्वेषां मंगलं भवेत् ।।  ९

To forge cohesion in the world as well as gain the welfare and peace of all people, give us your consent and blessings to take your water. May there be all-fold wellbeing.

सागरस्तवमेतं य: श्रद्धाभक्तियुत: पठेत् । 
  स: स्यातकल्याणकारी च स्वात्मज्योतिरतो भवेत् ।।   १०

Whoever learns and recites this hymn to the Ocean will become noble, high-souled and benevolent. He will shine with the true brilliance of the inmost Self.
