Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru. Jai Guru.
I feel that the super majority of devotees, seekers, yoga students and so many others belonging to religious, spiritual, philosophic and yogic factions do not know what exactly is to be done and gained by spirituo-philosophical and religious practices. It is very natural, people get married for the first time. They become parents in one or two years. They don’t have any experience of having parented a child when they parent the first child. So everyone starts from ignorance and no knowledge and we start gaining knowledge and experience. In this sphere also it is so with one difference. We have got luckily a lot of writing on the subject as to what is religion, what is spirituality, what is yoga and what is philosophy. Because this recorded literature is there we can always be guided by what it reveals. This means you have to examine, study, understand which nobody tries to spend time for. That is our problem.
We were discussing about meditation and also some kind of a practice that can be taken up. I was answering some questions in response to ‘A’ and her husband and I have touched the subject. That is why it comes to my mind today. I would like to let you know that our saadhana if at all should be an all time and wholesome one. What do I mean by that? You must have the feeling, the consciousness, that I am a seeker and I am a practitioner. Just like a girl once married becomes an all time wife and once she has delivered a child she has become an all time parent or mother. In the same manner one day you decide that I am a seeker. And once you become a seeker you should and you will continue to be a seeker. It is the seeker that does the doctor’s job, the engineer’s job, the teacher’s job, the manager’s job, the household job, the social job, professional job; it is the seeker that does everything. It is the wife that becomes the mother. It was the daughter that became the sister. It is the mother that becomes the grand mother, first a daughter, equally a sister perhaps, then a wife, then a mother. All these are simultaneously there.
So the one point that I want to tell you is that our mind is constricted even by conventional notions. Anything that constricts the mind is not at all spiritual. Anything that dispenses with constriction and installs expansion, lightness and flexibility is spiritual. When you have a child should this development constrict your mind or should it expand your mind? If you ask me instantly there must be a universal expansion. I was born a child. I did not know that. Bu I have a child. So I know how a child is born. And all are children like my children in the world to their parents. So though you have given birth to only one child you must have an expansion which makes you feel for all the children in the world. Now what happens is the mother gets constricted by the birth of the child to such an extent that she picks up differences and distance with a number of people at home. Now this is something called adversity and calamity in the spiritual language.
Everyday should be a day of expansion, a day of greater enrichment, a day of elevation, a day of better goodness, better and better and higher and higher levels of purity. Now look for it and ensure that it is so. When you start looking for constrictions and getting rid of them, imbibing expansion then you will find the mind becomes peaceful. Instead of having a narrow mind you will have a broad mind. Tell me whether it is to work with a narrow mind better or to work, live and move with a broad mind? Can you imagine the mind which reflects the endless space? Just look all around if necessary going up a hill and see how much of expanse is reflected, radiated and experienced by your mind and only by your mind imprint and mind experience you come to know that there is something like endless space. You don’t go to the endless space. The endless space is felt and experienced within your body in the mind. So that endless dimension is something that the mind grows into. It develops.
Now tell me whether your mind is small like a mustard or it is spatial like space. It is such a spatial mind that we constrict by various notions and practices. How bad it is! So be flexible. Be light hearted. Be peaceful. Be spatial, spacially, spacially. Initially become like an ocean and very soon get to the spatial level. This is what we want.
I would like to describe spiritual excellence in this manner. Ready and be able to, you must have the readiness and ability to assimilate all kinds of impacts from the daily interactions, interactions with persons, places and events. These are the basic categories of interactions we have. We interact with persons at home, in the office, in the hospital, then in the society. In all these interactions, interactional impacts will be there. Now, be ready and able enough to assimilate. You are not assimilating anything external. You are only assimilating the mind’s own responses to persons, places and events. So the mind is asked to assimilate its own by products like the ocean assimilating its own waves and breakers and tsunamis you can also assimilate. Mind has to assimilate its own products. Once you assimilate the process becomes an enrichment, your capacity grows like food is assimilated, it builds up strength through blood in our body. So the word assimilation is meaningful.
After you become enriched then the qualities will start expressing in you in whatever you do. Assimilational, enrichmental and expressional, this is what we want and every time whatever work is to be done our mind has got tremendous capacity to generate the necessary, the necessary impetus for you, inspiration for, the competence and confidence for you. So to assimilate all inputs and to generate the timely outputs and go forward in life, every time go forward. There is no reversal in this path at all. Every time we march forward and forward. This is in sum and substance the true nature of spirituality, its growth, enrichment and fulfillment. There will come a time if you do your saadhana properly, anything that comes to you will be welcome. Anything that goes from you is equally welcome. Go and you will never feel sorry unnecessarily. There will be no sense of defeat at all. It will always be a victorious life marching forward and forward, assimilating interactional impacts and generating outputs to undertake and go forward with any activity or interaction.
