Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru. Jai Guru.
Today we have a girl in front ‘T’ by name who has come with her father from Malaysia. Last evening during the satsang I spoke a few minutes particularly addressing her. Today when I asked her she says she has understood whatever was said yesterday and Ma tells me that she asked an important question today ‘How to preserve and keep divinity all along?’. I think it is a very good question, not only a good question it is the last and should be the first question of any human mind. According to me the process is very simple and easy provided you will use your intelligence in the whole pursuit.
Our personality is very complex and it is an aggregate also. The better word perhaps will be we have a composite personality. In the composite personality the body is an external counterpart and the whole body consists of matter and energy. Now, this matter and this energy you know very clearly that both of them do not have any power to sense, cognize, to remember, to think, to feel, to enquire into, to know and to retain the knowledge. Matter and energy are both, inert or insentient. They have no life. If our body is fully matter and energy and both of them, matter and energy are totally inert, then how is it that we are living, we are able to speak, we are able to feel, we understand? So a lot of consciousness processes are going on in our personality. None of these we have found belongs to the body which consists of matter and energy. Naturally in our personality there must be something different from the matter energy aggregate called the body. That body different factor, matter energy different factor is what we call the divine consciousness. Consciousness by its very nature is spiritual. If it is not material and energial it has to be only spiritual. We are describing it as spiritual only to differentiate it from the matter energy body.
Now my dear girl, will you not have to agree with me when I say that you are not the body alone. The body is the external medium by which you are living, working, acting and interacting and reacting. What actually makes the body felt is the mind, is the intelligence. Our body is felt by the mind, not that the mind is felt by the body. The same mind makes you un-feel the body during sleep and unconsciousness. So the body’s existence is not absolute. In sleep you totally forget it, in unconsciousness also. At the same time after the sleep and unconscious phase you wake up to say I did not know anything, I slept or I had a black out. So, what is this ‘I’ which is different from the body, becomes an important question. The answer is that it is the divine presence and potential which animate and activate the body.
Now you tell me in a very simple manner, are you the body or are you the spiritual presence inside? If you are the spiritual presence are you not divine? Every living body becomes so only because of the divine presence in the body. That spiritual presence by its very nature is divine. So are you not divine? Yes. Remember this divinity and do everything after that, after that, not against it. Every time you should remember that I am the divine spirit. That spirit is manifesting through the body animating and activating the body. Now, think of the body itself. Every child gets formed in the mother’s body. It takes about eight to nine months. In the eight to nine months the growth and fullness of the body takes place within the mother’s womb without the knowledge of the mother. The mother does not do anything for the growth or the development of the body. She feels hungry and as usual she has her food. Maybe because of pregnancy the fetus is growing, she may need a little more nourishment and food that is all. But the food goes into the stomach and alimentary canal. Nothing goes into the uterus as such. So the fetus in the uterus is growing by virtue of its own inner power. I have got a small writing from a gynecologist in which she explains how the fetus enters into the stomach and designs the body and starts growing and developing one organ after the other. Throughout, the fetus is consuming making use of the blood from the mother’s system. The same uniform blood used as a food, the fetus starts growing in all dimensions.
And just imagine one factor. Our smallest organ, are the two eyes. Even one eye is sufficient for us to see all the variety and infinitude of the world. With the naked eye you can see a mustard, a mountain, the endless seas and the still more endless space. If the power and the presence inside the body are capable of making this kind of an organ called the eye by virtue of which you are able to see the infinitude of creation what should be the power by itself is. Is it something small? Is it something negligible or it is something very great? Unless the power has got the potential to design and also implement the design using the same blood cells in the face it is eyes, nose, lips, ears, every organ is imbued with a certain power and we have the powers for what? Seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching.
When we look at the world it is these sensory organs made by the fetus all independently within the mother’s womb, these senses alone perceive the world and classify the world as sound, sight, smell, touch and taste. We don’t know of any other thing in the world. Maybe infinite number of articles are there. All this variety gets reduced into just five. And when these five go into the mind level they become pleasant and unpleasant. Again when we go to sleep, both these are completely wiped off. Now you tell me very clearly are you waking up and then the senses bring about the world or the world wakes you up? Waking up is by oneself. Sleeping is also by oneself. So the power and the presence within your body are capable of putting up the waking state and in the waking state through the senses it is able to display the paanchabhautik world - the sound, sight, touch, smell and taste world. And the same power and presence reduce them in the mind level to two - pleasant and unpleasant and the same power completely wipe off the whole sensations and feelings and it goes into a uniform state of, very difficult to say what is sleep. Then you wake up.
So the entire world is produced by our senses and the senses are produced by the in-lying presence. That presence is the spiritual one. That is what you call divine and godly. It is the same power that has produced this world also. So when you look at the world are you seeing just insert and insentient matter or you are seeing the display of the great divinity beneath it. When I look at your body I am not seeing the flesh and the mass alone. You have a beautiful face, you have two hands, ten fingers, two legs, ten toes, then you are able to think, speak, understand. All these are not the powers of the body but the powers and potentials of what made the body. If we have got the power within ourselves which is capable of making this wonderful body and through the body perceiving and display this wonderful and endless world then what should be the extent of that power and potential? Can it be anything worldly, limited, or it has to be something enormous, stupendous, even unimaginably so? What else can it be than divine? So, feel that you are a divine person and equally so feel that the entire world is a display of divinity.
Now this is an arithmetical calculation. In this there is no jugglery. There is no miracle or mysticism. It is a fact. Your mind is not matter. Your intelligence is not matter. Your knowledge is not matter. Your memory is not matter. Your thought and feeling are not matter. None of these things you can produce before me or before you to examine like a piece of matter or a solid substance. Electricity, magnetism, light, heat, all these are different forms of energy which all people can together feel alike but when it comes to a question of thought, feeling, emotion, memory knowledge etc. they are absolutely subjective. So they are called tattvas. There is no actual English translation for tattva. You can call it, they are all principles or concepts which you can make with your mind and intelligence.
So for me my dear girl, I am divine. You are divine. The whole world is divine and to think of it otherwise is sheer ignorance, delusion, obstinacy and nonsense. If there is a world that world is divine. If you are there you are divine. We are all seeing the living bodies. It is not the body that alone lives. The body is enlivened by the spirit, animated by the spirit, the spiritual presence. So when I look at a living body I actually feel the livingness in the body than the inertness of the body. What is the difference between a dead person and a living person? When we look at the dead body we miss the presence there. But when we look at the living body we feel the presence of that spiritual stuff. So all living bodies are display of divinity. The entire world, every plant, every creature, every tree, every creeper, everything is like that. In the mobile creation you find it easier. In the immobile creation also it is the same present that is there. So in our language we call it, existence is one, consciousness is another, and blissfulness is the third. All the three are equally properties and Lakṣaṇas of the supreme presence called divinity.
