Harih Om Tat Sat. Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru. Jai Guru.

Familiarity breeds contempt is a proverb that we have in English. Whatever you are familiar with very closely and for long, you will not have any regard for it. This is a kind of a defect or an evil that human nature, human mind, human intelligence etc. carry with them. Not all things in this world are pure. Many of them are impure. You have to deliberately put them into processes of purification and make them so.

Gold is a very rare metal. You don’t have gold like rock. You have to dig into the earth and get at the ore and from the ore you will have to extract gold. In fact, many metals are like that; even minerals are so. It is the difficulty in obtaining something that makes the thing dear and near for us. Our human life takes minimum 21-22 years for bodily growing. That is why we are able to live for something like 70-80 years. Think of a goat, a dog, and still lesser lifelong creatures. They are born and they grow and they also die very fast.

I don’t know whether all of you have thought about your own personality. Your personality has got two counterparts. One is the external, gross counterpart - that is your body. This body takes about 21 years for growth after being born from the mother’s womb. 21 years! That is why we are put to the primary education, the school education and even college education. At least up to 21 years, you should not ask anybody to work. The body should grow to its full size. After growth, the body doesn’t remain like that; it starts declining and growing down. That is the time we become an adult and we make our choices; we have our desires and options. Then we have to strive to realize them.

By the time you become an adult, if the body has already grown to the full, and it begins to decline, then the question necessarily arises, “What are the other factors or constituents in your personality which are meant to grow after the body’s growth is complete?” Yes, your mind begins to grow only after 18 - 21 years are over. You must become an adult and start thinking about matters yourself. Make your choice, have your consideration, evaluate matters properly, arrive at your own choices and strive in your own manner, being responsible for what you do. For this, you have to become an adult. And after becoming an adult, nothing can be done in the body because it is already grown. You can nourish it, give it food and drink, take some exercises, then you can remain healthy for long, that is all.

Then after 21, what is the part of your personality which will grow? That is why I said, your personality is a composite one, and body is only the external gross part. We have the internal part, inner personality which has mind, intelligence and ego as its constituents. It is these three which are supposed to grow ever since you become an adult. And I feel that the two - mind and intelligence can grow up to the last point of your life. You can build your mind, enrich the mind, qualitatively, qualitatively. So, the qualitative inner enrichment can go on every day, every week, every month, every half year, every year, every decade.

Our mind is the greatest potential that we have. Intelligence is a rare treasure for us. With the help of intelligence, we can understand everything in this world, outside as well as inside. The intelligence uses the senses to perceive and understand the world outside. The same intelligence uses the mind and itself to understand what is within the body. Within the body, you will find your mind is infinite in its capacity, potential and also possibility. Intelligence has got the power and subtlety to go into any area or branch of knowledge. It can probe into the external field of matter and energy, it can equally probe into the internal personality and find out what is this mind, what is this intelligence, how do they reflect the entire world. If it reflects the infinite world, endless world, space etc., what should be the capacity of the mind? Start thinking, thinking, thinking.

Infinity as a mathematical postulate may not be understandable or visible. But mind as an infinite source can be experienced by us. Close your eyes and probe into your mind, try to understand what is the breadth of the mind, depth of the mind, loftiness of the mind. You can remain completely absorbed in your own mind, as Parikshit did, Sri Rama did, as Dhruva did, and so many others did.

Every day you are sleeping for seven hours at least. The seven hours of sleep, your mind is not there, body is not there, intelligence and ego are not there, yet ‘you’ are there. What is that ‘you’ which was sleeping unconscious of the body, mind, intelligence and ego? This one question is sufficient for you to understand how great a potential you carry within your body. The word ‘I’ you refer to, denotes something within you other than the body, mind, intelligence and ego. That ‘I’ along with what it denotes - that is what you have to understand. The word ‘soul’ or ‘self’ refers to it. And there is no quality which does not belong to the soul. All this you can understand provided you become a mental being; not a physical or sensory person.

Try to spend more time with your mind, go into the thought process. Find out wherefrom does it commence, where does it prevail and how does it dissolve, what is the source and the terminus of the thought process. Just go on observing. If you can sense the thought, you can also sense its origin, its terminus. We don’t generally bother about it. We don’t make it a clear enquiry for us. That is why we are not able to understand it. Spend time and make your effort, you will be able to know.

This kind of an infusion, getting into within the body and trying to understand the inner presence and the inner processes, this is the gist of spirituality, spiritual life and spiritual pursuit. I would like you to know it well and attempt it as much as possible.

Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru.
